I went out to supper the other night with a few buddies. It was a guy and a girl, and the person was aiming to get the lady interested in him.
Naturally, as the third wheel, I just kicked back and enjoyed. What struck me as apparent, (considering that I was outside of the scenario) was how much the man was aiming to impress the woman.
Meaning he would start in on a story, hoping she would hear the story, be impressed, and be drawn in to him. But midway through the story, something in it would remind her of something, and she 'd come up with something fascinating she wished to add to the discussion.
Think me, it was painful to enjoy.
Why?
Because each time she created her own contribution to the discussion, her eyes would light up, her face would get a little more ecstatic, and she 'd liven up a bit.
But my buddy, feeling he was being dissed or something, would listen to simply a bit, then rapidly return into his own story. To which she 'd react by drawing back a bit further. She listened nicely, but not with much interest. I counted 4 different events where she 'd try to "join the conversation," share a part of herself, just to get shot down.
See, he was trying so tough to impress her, he didn't observe what was occurring.
He wasn't mindful how eager she was to participate in a truthful "backward and forward," those magical conversations where the topics bounce all over the place, and stories are started and never finished.
When this takes place, it's like lovely music. Everyone's playing, and due to the fact that there's a lot of incomplete stories, that means that unconsciously, there's plenty of "open loops."
When someone can produce a number of open loops in a conversation, it's something. But when they occur spontaneously, with 2 individuals sharing powerfully appealing energy?
Pure magic.
Unfortunately, my pal was so up in his head that he didn't discover this magic was passing him by.
